ICYMI: Justin Verlander vs. Richard Sherman

by Jason Epstein

Via David Brown of Yahoo Sports’ Big League Stew: All that was needed to make the Richard Sherman kerfuffle a wee bit more kerfuffly was the input of Justin Verlander of the Tigers.

Shortly after Sherman made his views felt about Michael Crabtree, the 2012 American League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Award winner sent his Twitter followers the following pearls of wisdom:

Verlander doesn’t specify what he found so objectionable — Sherman’s jawing at Crabtree immediately following the play, the choke sign directed at Colin Kaepernick, or the WWE-esque performance during the Erin Andrews interview. (Maybe it was all three?) In any event, Verlander would have his readers believe that, were Sherman to perform such antics while on the diamond, the appropriate response would be a 100 MPH heater aimed inches from his cranium.

This is not the first time that Verlander has been on a “respect” kick. Back in the summer of 2012, he screamed at Erick Aybar for attempting to break up his no-hit bid with Aybar’s team down three runs in the eighth inning.

Interestingly, Brian McCann was unavailable for comment.
