Newark Mayor Cory Booker has told Democratic Party county chairs that he is considering a run for governor in 2013, according to the New York Observer’s Politicker NJ.
Booker and his political consultant Mark Matzen have been taking meetings and have suggested that the mayor will make a decision on the run by December.
If he decides to run, he’ll likely face incumbent Gov. Chris Christie in 2013.
Christie, a rising star in the GOP, is slated to give a keynote address at the Republican National Convention next week.
For his part, Booker has also gained a level of popularity in the Democratic Party, driven by his engagement on Twitter and his frequent media appearances. . .
