I have never received a debating invitation from Linda Chavez, much less turned one down. I began my discussion with her a week ago Friday on NPR’s Tell Me More by saying how honored I was to be a co-signer with her on Ward Connerly’s recent petition to ban racial preferences for immigrants. That effort to extend an olive branch failed completely; Chavez’s attitude was contemptuous throughout. Thus my designation of the experience as “unpleasant.”
