Brian Walsh of the NRSC today confirmed that four Senate leaders have given the $5,000 maximum general election donation to Sharron Angle’s campaign. Though Mitch McConnell has said he will not come to Nevada to campaign for Angle, the Senate minority leader from Kentucky joined Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., and Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, in his commitment to support the Angle campaign.
Senator Ensign, who has a long-standing non-aggression pact with Harry Reid, has also contributed $5,000 to Angle and today told the Las Vegas Review Journal that campaigning for Reid’s opponent is not a violation of the agreement.
Angle has raised more than $1.8 million since the June 8 primary, but she will need much more in order to run a competitive campaign and buy enough ad time to try to match Harry Reid on the Nevada airwaves going into November.
As of June, the Reid campaign had about $9 million cash on hand. Reid has said he plans to raise as much as $25 million for the race, and money flowing in from outside interest groups could make it a $100 million contest by election day.
