New Reid Ad Exploits BP ‘Slush Fund’ Remark

Harry Reid’s new television ad highlights a recent Angle’s remark in which she called the $20 billion escrow account set up to pay victims of the BP oil spill a “slush fund.” Angle made the critical comment in early July on a Las Vegas radio talk show.  She also called the Obama administration’s response to the spill an “overreaction by government” and called for better federal oversight.

The Reid camp was immediately out with a response, saying, “The fact that Sharron Angle has sided with BP and says they shouldn’t have to guarantee the funds to cleanup their mess, risking a taxpayer bailout, is just the latest example of the extreme and dangerous agenda she would bring to Washington.”

Angle backed off her position later that same day, saying she should not have used the term “slush fund” and that she thought the fund was a good “first step” along with the need for a thorough investigation and questions about how regulatory oversight failed.
