Sestak: Iraq War ‘An Unnecessary One’, ‘Harmed Our National Security Fabric’

Joe Sestak appeared on MSNBC this week to mark the departure of the last combat brigade from Iraq. The former Navy vice admiral remarked on Iraq, saying, “People will look back on this war as an unnecessary one. One that we unfortunately harmed our national security fabric as we’ve lost our focus where the real challenge was, and that was in Afghanistan.”

He went on to say he hoped the U.S. shifted focus to al-Qaeda in Pakistan, “in partnership with that country.” In a head-scratching moment, Sestak declared, “Militaries may make you safe, but they don’t make you secure.”
