High Times: Onorato Campaign Staffer Arrested, 28 Marijuana Plants in Basement

In a turn of events that would be difficult to credibly script, a full-time campaign staffer in one of Dan Onorato’s Western Pennsylvania regional offices has been arrested for felony possession of 28 marijuana plants found in her basement.

Lauren McDonnel, who the Onorato campaign has terminated, is accused of illegal drug manufacture after police found the plants. Apparently, someone tried to ship her 12 ounces of weed via postal mail, which is what tipped off police to visit her residence.

Ms. McDonnel was well regarded for her work ethic, and had been with Onorato since the primary. She had been recommended to the Pennsylvania Democratic Party to work for all state candidates.

This comes as a particularly awkward revelation for the Onorato campaign, already down 10-15 points in the latest polls and severely out-funded. His opponent Tom Corbett is the state attorney general.

When your opponent is the de facto law-and-order candidate, it doesn’t help to have your own staffers toking up — let alone manufacturing the darned stuff — in their free time.
