Illinois Thursday Overview

Gubernatorial Race

Senate Race

  • Alexi Giannoulias has a one-point lead in one new Senate poll, discussed here, while Mark Kirk has a slight edge in two new Senate polls, summarized here. The spin is already flying fast and furious. Kos hopes the Green Party voters will flip to Giannoulias as election-day nears and wants the undecideds to come out. FireDoglake helps the agricultural sector by eating a healthy serving of sour grapes. And Politics Daily finds a majority of voters unhappy with the choices before them. Gee, you mean a choice between a lying liberal crook and a moderate Republican with sketchy statements about his past isn’t ideal?

House Races

  • The Evanston Review interviews Jan Schakowsky of IL-9 and gets platitudes for answers. Raise your hand if you’re surprised. Over at the American Thinker, though, optimism runs high about Republican challenger Joel Pollak’s chances to beat Schakowsky.

  • Meanwhile, in IL-11, a chance meeting between Statehouse Speaker Michael Madigan and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich occurs. Both were at Chicago’s Union League Club to raise funds for their party’s candidates.

  • Arguably, neither Democrat Dan Seals nor Republican Bob Dole actually lives in the district they’re fighting over, the 10th.
