Keystone Tuesday Evening Update

  • Joe Sestak, in remarks reported by the Christian Science Monitor, answered, “We’re doing it for the polls,” when asked about President Obama’s latest round of proposed multi-billion dollar stimulus.

  • Pat Toomey is out with two positive television spots this week. Leading in the polls by 6 or 10 points, depending on the poll, Toomey is looking to gain momentum over Joe Sestak.

  • The Rothenberg Political Report now has two key Pennsylvania races in the “Tilt Republican” category. Kathy Dahlkemper, endangered blue dog Democrat in the northwestern 3rd district, and crusty forever-incumbent Paul Kanjorski in the 11th district, could lose their jobs.

  • Today’s Wall Street Journal covered Democrat gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato’s decision last month to support “grants” (not vouchers!) for schoolchildren. The paper notes: “Mr. Onorato could also be responding to the public education reality in Pennsylvania. On state tests last year, only 56% of 11th graders scored proficient in math, and 65% in reading.”

  • The Republican Jewish Coalition is criticizing Chuck Hagel and Joe Sestak for “sharing the same dangerous views on Israel.” Hagel, the former Nebraska senator, endorsed Sestak last month.
