Keystone Wednesday Morning Update

  • Mark Halperin looks at the Toomey-Sestak contest over at Time/CNN: “Toomey made a fortune as a Wall Street derivatives trader and peddled personal savings accounts as a cure for Social Security’s troubled balance sheet as the head of the conservative group the Club for Growth. Sestak and his allies have pounded away at those themes for months – only to watch the Democratic Congressman fall further and further behind in the polls.”

  • John McCormack at the Weekly Standard is reporting that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is buying about 50 percent fewer television spots for Joe Sestak this week. Says McCormack: “The DSCC’s decision to scale back its ad campaign in Pennsylvania is likely due to the fact that Democrats are now being forced to spend money on other competitive races.”

  • Toomey Watch, a project of a 527 called “The Lantern Project” has put together a 40-second video wherein Pat Toomey says (from an old television appearance), “My voting record is pretty hard to distinguish from Rick Santorum. Maybe some people think Rick is an ultra-conservative, I don’t think so, I think he’s a mainstream conservative, and that’s what I am, and that’s what I represent.” Will Sestak jump on this?

  • The latest Senate poll, conducted by Muhlenberg College, puts Pat Toomey up by 7 over Joe Sestak, falling in the range of 6-9 point leads that nearly every other poll have indicated.

  • The Wayne Independent has a fairly thorough, albeit boilerplate, review of Tom Corbett and his professional political career, for anyone who wants a quick run down on the man who would be governor.
