Ohio Thursday Evening Roundup

Gubernatorial Race

During his closing statement during Tuesday’s Ohio Governor debate, GOP candidate John Kasich said, “About a week ago, ten days ago, I walked into a Bob Evans. As I walked through the restaurant I saw a man and a woman and I went over to them and they were writing numbers on a piece of paper. I said what’s – what are you doing there. They said, well my job was downgraded. The lady said my job was downgraded. We’re sitting here working on the family budget. We’re trying to figure out how to make it work.”

Following Kasich’s comment, Blogger Anthony Fossaceca of the OhioDaily posted, “Like much of tonight’s debate, the words coming out of John Kasich’s mouth were fiction. …(In fact, someone please send me a photo of the Ohio couple in the Bob Evans with the napkin and I’ll personally apologize to Congressman Kasich the next time I’m at his country club).”

So, on Wednesday night we did just that. As you may remember, CNN’s John King interviewed Kasich last week during our JKUSA Election Road Trip to Ohio. We had the video to show that Kasich was in fact at the Bob Evans he said he was.

Senatorial Race

  • The NRA endorses Rob Portman:

The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) announced today its endorsement of Rob Portman for U.S. Senate.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the NRA Political Victory Fund,” said Rob Portman. “Our 2nd Amendment rights are under attack by forces in Washington that want to limit our Constitutional rights. I will continue fighting to protect and strengthen the rights of gun owners.”

“Rob Portman is the gun owners’ and hunters’ choice in this race,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. “He is a solid defender of the Second Amendment and his record proves he will stand up for the rights of gun owners in Ohio and across the United States, earning him the NRA-PVF endorsement.”

Rob has earned an “A” rating from the NRA-PVF. A gun owner and lifelong sportsman, Rob Portman also has a strong record supporting and fighting for gun rights. Rob voted for the District of Columbia Personal Protection Act to repeal the D.C. gun ban and restore gun rights to residents of our nation’s capital. He cosponsored and voted for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act and voted against legislation to regulate gun shows out of business.
