Questions about CNN Poll Showing Angle Up by One

A new CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Wednesday shows Harry Reid with 41 percent of the vote and an advantage among women, while Angle earns 42 percent of the vote and leads among men.

A surprising five percent said they are supporting Scott Ashjian, the controversial “Tea Party of Nevada” candidate, and a whopping 11 percent say they are voting for “none of the candidates.”

The poll also indicates that Angle has a seven-point advantage among independent voters, which if true could well be her ticket to a win in November.

Two notes about the sampling, though, as first pointed out by journalist Jon Ralston on Twitter a few moments ago: The crosstabs show Reid up by only 42-38 in heavily Democratic Clark County, which seems nearly impossible. The sample also shows Reid ahead 50-40 in Washoe County, which seems unlikely in a county that should be about evenly split.

In the race to be Nevada’s next governor, the poll says Republican Brian Sandoval has a 58-31 advantage over Rory Reid, which also seems unlikely. Most pollsters have Sandoval up by a 10-15 point difference.
