Battle ‘10 Nevada has combined first impressions with a late-night living room review of the tape and wishes to reaffirm that Sharron Angle won tonight’s U.S. Senate debate.
Angle was passable, lively and had better one-liners. Reid was worse than expected and rambled where he needed to stage strong rhetorical rallies. He was also obviously annoyed, which is never good.
All in all, the debate was a bit underwhelming but interesting nonetheless.
Angle was well-prepared; her prep team deserves credit. Reid, not so much. Did he study up, or just assume Angle would hand him the win?
His worst moments were those in which he referred to Angle as “my friend.”
Really, Senator? Your campaign has spent nearly five months and many millions of dollars demonizing the dangerous lady from the sticks, and now she is your…friend?
As for the facts, there were often too few, and at times far too many (don’t bore us with statistics; tell us a story).
Petraeus, whose veracity was once questioned by Reid, was tonight also called his “friend.” We are sure the general is verklempt.
Angle, when questioned about her changed positions from the primary — on the Department of Education, Social Security and the unemployed — blamed most misunderstandings on spin by Team Reid rather than admit, as she did earlier this week, that she now understands things she once did not.
The latter is a better answer, but in the instances where Reid could have pounced on her, he lagged.
Meanwhile, Angle hammered him on Obamacare, immigration, taxes and the economy. Reid, in apparent discomfort, spent much of the debate on the defense.
It is a place he can ill afford to be as the biggest Senate race in the land winds to its close.
