California Senate Race Getting Closer

A new Rasmussen poll shows Sen. Barbara Boxer ahead of Republican Carly Fiorina by three points, 49 percent to 46 percent. The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Three percent of voters remain undecided.

“Today’s poll confirms that, after spending more than $10 million on baseless, political attacks against Carly, Barbara Boxer still can’t convince voters she’s deserving of another six-year term in Washington,” said Fiorina press secretary Andrea Saul in a statement.

“Californians are entirely focused on the economy — and the fact that Barbara Boxer hasn’t been able to deliver results for the people of this state and is now trying to distract voters from that dismal record only underscores just how out of touch she has become during her 28 years in Washington,” Saul added. “And as our campaign continues to draw a sharp contrast between Boxer’s record of failure with Carly’s proven record of leadership in creating jobs and her fresh perspective on economic growth, we expect Boxer’s support to falter and Carly’s to continue growing.”

The Boxer campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.

UPDATE: The Boxer campaign has now responded. with this statement from campaign manager Rose Kapolczynski: “It’s no surprise the polls are tight; we’ve always expected a tough race.  Carly Fiorina and her special interest allies are spending millions to shift attention away from Carly Fiorina’s record of layoffs, outsourcing, and perks for herself at HP, but it won’t work.  As voters learn about the clear contrast between the candidates, we are confident they will choose Boxer.”
