Florida Countdown: Seven Days Left

  • A new poll shows Republican Daniel Webster leading progressive instigator Alan Grayson in the 8th-district race by a 48-41 margin. For those who don’t know Grayson (if there are indeed any such voters left), George Will recently described him as America’s worst politician: “There are hundreds of plausible nominees for the title of America’s Second-Smarmiest Politician, but surely the top spot is un-contested.”

  • According to Zogby, Marco Rubio is hanging on to a 40-33-18 lead over Charlie Crist and Kendrick Meek.

  • The same Zogby poll gives Democrat Alex Sink a 43-39 lead over Republican Rick Scott in the gubernatorial race. Not that both candidates aren’t trying to change the margin. Collectively, the two spent $5 million campaigning just last week alone.

  • Mitt Romney is throwing some love Florida’s way through his PAC, with endorsements going out to 22nd-district Republican Allen West and 24th-district Republican Sandy Adams.

  • Voters in the 25th district are getting mysterious robo-calls at odd hours — like 6:45 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Purportedly they’re from Republican David Rivera, but he says they don’t originate with his campaign.

  • U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns of the 6th district isn’t in a tough election, but he’s raising money anyway. This Friday, according to a fundraising invite, you — yes, you! — can sit down for coffee with the congressman for 30 minutes. Now for the low, low price of $500.

  • Finally, Reason.tv and Citizens Against Government Waste names 20th-district Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz its “Porker of the Month.”

Schultz: “We will have created more jobs in this year than in the entire Bush presidency.”

Announcer: “That sounds great! And according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data, it’s also amazingly disingenuous.”
