Florida in Review

  • Marco Rubio is still sitting pretty. A new Mason-Dixon poll gives him a 42-27-21 lead over Charlie Crist and Kendrick Meek.

  • Rubio’s campaign announced breathtaking fundraising numbers yesterday — $5 million during the third quarter. “With close to 100,000 donors, the size and enthusiasm of our donor base gives us a virtually unlimited pool of support we can return to again and again over the final stretch of this campaign,” Rubio strategist Todd Harris wrote in a statement. Several media are reporting that the haul breaks the quarterly record for a U.S. Senate race in Florida. The previous record, interestingly enough, was also set by Rubio — last quarter. Rubio will enter the final stretch of this campaign with approximately $5.5 million in cash on hand, which will allow him to dominate the airwaves.

  • Some Democrats say Kendrick Meek needs to stay viable so that he can bring black voters to the polls and help down-ballot candidates like gubernatorial hopeful Alex Sink.

  • The DCCC halves its ad buy in the 24th district, but says it’s not chalking the race up as a loss.

  • Jimmy Buffett will be joining Alex Sink for a $5,000-per-person fundraiser.

  • Alan Grayson, appearing on CNN, finally takes a step back on his “Taliban Dan” ad when Anderson Cooper asks if comparing someone to the Taliban is like comparing someone to the Nazis. “Well in a way, you’re right. We let that ad run and die a natural death.” This is a particularly testy exchange.
