After a Crist spokesman confirmed that the governor had decided to caucus with the Democrats if elected, Crist seems to have thrown off all pretense of moderation. A new poll shows Republican Rick Scott leading Democrat Alex Sink in the race for the governor’s mansion, 44-39, though Scott’s lead is within the margin of error. As the election draws near, underhanded mailers are popping up. In the 8th district, where Republican Dan Webster is locked into a tight battle with progressive instigator Alan Grayson, voters are receiving material urging them to vote for tea-party candidate Peg Dunmire. Her campaign says it did not send the mailer, and it does not have a return address or state a funding source — making it illegal under election law.

Similarly, though not illegal, voters in the 2nd district are receiving a mailer which includes Republican Steve Southerland’s face and the headline, “I like parts of Obamacare.” Presumably it’s sent on behalf of an independent conservative candidate, but tiny print at the bottom states: “Paid for by the Florida Democratic Party.”
