Gubernatorial Race

Despite huge amounts of fundraising on both sides of the race, Bill Brady is up 6 in the gubernatorial race against Pat Quinn, despite being unfairly attacked as a puppy-killer. It may have something to do with the fact that even the Chicago Tribune has doubts about Pat Quinn. But no one has doubts about the third-party candidates because (with the possible exception of Scott Lee Cohen) no one’s going to vote for them. Still, that hasn’t stopped Green Party candidate Rich Whitney from complaining. Well, he got at least part of his wish — he’s being included in the debate tonight.
Senatorial Race

Giannoulias ran Illinois’ higher education funding into the ground, according to a new story in the Chicago Tribune. This just as Kirk releases a new radio ad. Kirk’s momentum looks like it could get decent going into the election — that is, assuming Giannoulias’ latest race-baiting legal threat doesn’t pan out.

Phil Hare, Democrat of IL-17, is the gift that keeps on giving. He evidently is in bed with a local paper, thinks job growth is on its way, and even has a Big Government.com open thread devoted to mocking him. His Republican challenger Bobby Schilling also has a devastating new attack ad. Still, Hare always has his buddies in the SEIU to turn to.

Jan Schakowsky in IL-9 gets profiled just as she drops below 50 percent in a new internal poll from challenger Joel Pollak. I guess treating bloggers with critical questions like dirt doesn’t play well with the voters. But hey, at least AOL News is asking the really tough questions (sarcasm alert). Here’s one for Schakowsky — why are you telling Arab groups you will fight to make sure the people who give them a bad name are protected by United States law?

Adam Kinzinger, the likely next Congressman IL-11, is one of Time’s “40 under 40.” This just after a contentious debate with sitting Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson. Who, by the way, is probably too deep in the ditch for even Michelle Obama to save.
