Keystone Monday Afternoon Update

  • I think it’s Corbett’s election to lose,” says a former Democrat consultant in Philadelphia. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review looks at what appears to be a gubernatorial contest that voters have already decided, thanks to high enthusiasm on the right and among fiscally-concerned moderates, and a lack of interest among Philadelphia’s Democrats in supporting Pittsburgh native Dan Onorato.

  • In a blow to Republican Tim Burns, the NRA has endorsed Democrat incumbent Mark Critz in the contest for Pennsylvania’s 12th district. Critz took the seat in a special election after the death of longtime Congressman John Murtha last year. The race is seen as a potential GOP pick-up, but only if things go very well for Republicans on Nov. 2.

  • In the 7th district in Delaware County, Pat Meehan and Bryan Lentz continue to squabble over Lentz’s broken promises to not take per diems or government-funded cars. This race ranks among the top opportunities for a GOP pick-up.

  • Pat Meehan has $1.5 million in cash on hand as he heads into the final four weeks of campaign season. Opponent Lentz, meanwhile, has not yet released his fundraising numbers. NJ Gov. Chris Christie has been helping Meehan on the trail.

  • The Pennsylvania GOP features a new, very positive ad airing in the 11th district touting Lou Barletta’s service as mayor of Hazleton. That city made national press under Barletta’s leadership for his willingness to speak out against an illegal alien population that he said was putting a strain on the city.
