Miller 2 Points Ahead in Newest Poll

A new poll gives Republican senate candidate Joe Miller a two-point lead over Sen. Lisa Murkowski, 35 percent to 33 percent. Trailing behind them both is Democrat Scott McAdams, who is at 26 percent.

The poll was conducted by Public Policy Polling and sponsored by liberal website Daily Kos.

The poll tried to emulate the conditions voters would face in the voting booth by asking them if they wanted to vote for Miller, McAdams, or someone else. If they chose “someone else,” they were then given several options, including third party candidates and Murkowski.

Sixty-one percent of Republicans are backing Miller, while 31 percent support Murkowski. Among independent and other voters, 38 percent support Murkowski, and 29 percent Miller. A quarter of Democrats back Murkowski.

Four percent of voters remained undecided. Miller has higher unfavorable ratings than Murkowski, 58 percent to 46 percent.

The poll’s margin of error is 2.4 percent.
