Miller, Murkowski Tied

A new CNN/Time poll shows Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Republican senate candidate Joe Miller tied, with both backed by 37 percent of likely voters. Democrat senate candidate Scott McAdams trails with 23 percent of the vote.

Here’s the phrasing of the question, which notably did use Murkowski’s name in the initial question: “If the election for U.S. Senate were held today and the candidates were Scott McAdams, the Democrat and Joe Miller, the Republican, who would you be more likely to vote for or would you write in the name of Lisa Murkowski, who is also running?”

Other polls have tried to replicate the write-in experience by asking McAdams, Miller, or other. If the likely voter chooses other, Murkowski’s name is listed as one of the choices.

The poll also asked Murkowski voters how confident they were that they knew the proper procedure to write in her name. Ninety-three percent of Murkowski voters said they were very confident they knew how to do so.
