Murphy Up by 14 in New Poll

Democratic Congressman Chris Murphy is releasing new numbers to combat Capitol Watch’s latest poll showing a contest in the fifth congressional district:

NEW BRITAIN – As the race for the Fifth District heads into the final weeks, Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5) today released internal polling numbers showing his lead has grown to 14 points, 48%-34%. . . .

The survey, conducted October 4-6, 2010, by Gotham Research Group surveyed a representative sample of 424 likely voters in the Fifth District by live telephone calls.  The margin of error of this new survey is 4.8%.  This style of polling is considered the gold standard in the industry, unlike the historically inaccurate Independent Voice Recognition (IVR) polling that CT Capitol Report commissioned via the Merriam River Group in its recent survey of the Fifth District.
