Nevada Election News Blurbs

Senate

  • The talk show hosts are, predictably, still talking about Sharron Angle’s private please-step-out meeting with ‘Tea Party of Nevada’ candidate and rival Scott Ashjian. One host (also upset that Angle canceled her appearance on his show) and his guest were appalled that she would do such a thing. Another host got Angle on the line and called Ashjian a “snake.”

  • As you can read in that second interview, Angle said she was disgusted by the betrayal vis a vis Ashjian’s secret recording and its subsequent release to the media.

  • Angle also dismissed the allegations of special backroom deals and quid pro quo. She said she would make the same offer of senatorial access to any constituent. A nice thought, but hardly realistic.

  • In any case, Ashjian will remain on the ballot, Nevada’s highest court ruled this week.

  • Despite Angle’s negative comments about the GOP establishment in her meeting with Ashjian, the NRSC fundraiser she attended in Georgetown reportedly went well.

  • Las Vegas entertainer Rita Rudner sings a nasty little anti-Angle song at the behest of the Friends of Harry Reid. She was once considered a class act.

  • A Las Vegas newspaper says Reid is accentuating the positive in the final weeks of his campaign based on remarks he made in one appearance this week (and despite all the negative campaign ads still bombarding Nevada airwaves).

  • Reid got support this week from a Republican mayor from Reno, a Democratic mayor from Carson City, and a Sparks city councilwoman.

  • State Senate minority leader Bill Raggio, the biggest Republican name in the state, also endorsed Reid today. The animosity between Raggio and Angle goes back two years to when she challenged him for his Senate seat, but Raggio said that had no bearing on what he today called his reluctant support for Reid. There is no doubt Raggio’s position on this will influence some GOP voters.

House

  • Medical groups are throwing their support behind Republicans including Dr. Joe Heck in NV-3.

General

  • Oops. The Republican National Committee mailed 200,000 absentee ballot request forms into Clark County with the instruction that people who have never voted in “Washoe County” can only use the mail-in ballot under certain circumstances. Robocalls were reportedly done to correct the error.

Biden Can’t Tax the Rich

Joe Biden’s tax plan is based on a deathless myth: that taxes are actually paid in economic terms by those upon whom they legally fall. The obviousness of this nonsense is clear enough if you put the proposition into plain English: “Don’t you worry, now, we’re not going to raise taxes on you, Bubba — ... Read More
