Nevada News Round-up

Senate

  • Harry Reid wishes the race weren’t so close and actually speculated out loud about the causes “if he loses.” Words like that rarely cross his lips.

  • A Republican state assemblyman has said Sharron Angle needs to apologize for comments she made about Republican state senate minority leader Bill Raggio, who earlier this week “reluctantly” endorsed Reid over Angle (with caveats).

  • A former first lady, wife of the late GOP Governor Kenny Guinn, also endorsed Reid this week.

  • The Senate race is definitely stirring things up in Republican politics across the Silver State. Jon Ralston got his hands on emails exchanged between longtime GOP strategist Sig Rogich and ex-Governor Bob List, a current GOP national committeeman. Not pretty.

  • Jim Rogers, owner of KSNV-TV, Channel 3, this week endorsed Harry Reid on the basis of Nevada keeping its clout in the Senate. Las Vegas Review Journal editor Tom Mitchell begged to differ and in doing so referenced a piece written by NRO’s own Kathryn Lopez.

  • A Politico piece says Democrats fear an Angle surge based on recent pubic polls, but sources tell me Nevada Dems and the Reid campaign are confident the surveys are wrong and they are slightly ahead.

  • FiveThirtyEight now gives Angle a 66 percent chance of winning.

  • Sharron Angle’s pastor problem seems a bit of a non-issue since (1) she’s not responsible for what this pastor says in interviews, and (2) she is no longer a member at that church. Angle immediately disavowed the controversial comments in a statement.

  • CNN sent a camera to Frankford, Texas, to see if the threat of Sharia law is really there. Nope. I wonder which Frankford, USA, Angle really meant or if she misspoke entirely?

  • Politifact took a look at the most recent Angle ad and judged it “barely true.”

  • Looks like the Angle campaign may settle in the copyright lawsuit filed against them by Righthaven LLC in the recent Review Journal sue-fest.

  • A New York Times op-ed shares some amusing anecdotes from campaigns across the country but says for awfulest election, Nevada wins.

  • Angle will be doing a Heidi Harris-hosted meet-and-greet today at 2 p.m. at a popular Las Vegas watering hole. Battle ‘10 will be there.

House

  • How the marquee Senate race and the governorship going GOP could tip the NV-3 race.

  • Dina Titus and Republican challenger Joe Heck will have a late afternoon debate hosted by the Latin Chamber of Commerce. Battle ‘10 will also be there to cover and report.
