Obama Talks at Coons Fundraiser

President Obama and vice president Joe Biden campaigned for Democrat senate candidate Chris Coons in Wilmington today.

“Everybody said, ‘No, you can’t.’ And two years ago, you said, ‘Yes, we can.’ And you can say that same thing two weeks from now. I want everybody to be clear: There is no doubt this is a difficult election … although Chris has so far run an extraordinary race,” the president said, according to Politico.

“I don’t want everybody here taking this for granted,” he continued. “This is a tough political environment. … This is a difficult election because we’ve been through an incredibly difficult time as a nation.”

Obama also argued that Republican polices would hurt the nation. “They figured if they just sat on the sidelines and opposed us every step of the way … then people might forget that they were the ones who had caused the mess, and that people’s anger and frustration would lead them to success in the next election,” he said. “That was their strategy. And you have to give them credit.”

Biden, who had previously been a Delaware senator, introduced Obama.as someone with “a backbone like a ramrod.”

“I kid him he’s got a brain bigger than his skull, and he’s got a heart to match both,” the vice president said.

The newest poll shows Coons leading Republican Christine O’Donnell by 11 points, 51 percent to 40 percent.
