In her first general election TV ad, Christine O’Donnell wants to make one thing clear: She’s just like the rest of us. The ad, which features a steady O’Donnell looking straight into the camera, clearly aims to fight back against the accusations that her past statements make her too extreme to be elected by mainstream America.
“I am not a witch,” a smiling O’Donnell announces. “I’m nothing you’ve heard. I’m you.”
“None of us are perfect,” she continues, “but none of us can be happy with what we see all around us. Politicians who think spending, trading favors, and back-room deals are the ways to stay in office.”
“I’ll go to Washington and do what you’d do,” O’Donnell concludes. And after saying that she approves the message, she ends on the same relatable note that launched the ad: “I’m you.”
