Five Days to the Election
Gubernatorial Race
-
National press is going crazy with analysis of the Ohio gubernatorial race, and for good reason. Rasmussen just released a new poll showing John Kasich up by 4 against Ted Strickland. Local press, meanwhile, seems to be in denial about the race, doing things like covering insignificant third-party candidates and obsessing about geographical oddities. The Youngstown Vindicator is openly fretting for Ted Strickland, while the Toledo Blade is trying desperately to figure out Kasich’s strategy. This much coverage in the pro-Strickland section of the press can mean only one thing — he’s in trouble.
Senatorial Race
-
Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher is still going to lose, and even he just admitted it by giving away his campaign funds to the Ohio Democratic Party. That is all.
House Races
-
Despite being pointedly mentioned by President Obama in his Daily Show interview last night, John Boccieri of OH-16 doesn’t look like he can pull it out. Can’t help that one of the leaders of his own party can’t even get his name right.
-
John Boehner, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Bill Clinton will all be in Ohio’s 18th District this weekend. Can you say “bellwether?”
-
Charlie Wilson of OH-6 is getting in parting shots against his Republican challenger Bill Johnson. At this stage, they’re unlikely to make much difference.
