Gubernatorial Race
John Kasich is up 9 oercent, according to Quinnipiac. This shows a slight tightening of the governor’s race, but nothing for Democrats to write home about — if Strickland’s going to succeed, he still needs to make a dent in Kasich’s massive share of independent voters. Visits from an unpopular national politician and hyper-partisan attacks don’t usually help with independents. But maybe he’ll figure that out in the debate on Thursday.
Senate Race
The debate yesterday is getting a lot of spin from various people. One area that’s receiving attention is the question of Social Security, where Fisher’s desperate jabs at Portman’s record are getting sorted. Portman doesn’t seem to have any interest in taking a stand on principle on this issue, which puts him in the mainstream of the GOP — something that Tim Carney as the Examiner sees as not a good thing.
