David Plouffe, Obama’s 2008 campaign manager, told reporters at the DNC headquarters that if Republicans don’t sweep to power across the board in 2010, they will have failed to meet expectations.
“When you’ve got winds this strong in your favor, that’s the kind of election you need to have – or it should be considered a colossal failure,” he said.
Plouffe said compared to Republicans who have “maxed out or close to it,” he expected Democrats to “show progress gradually” in the remaining weeks before Election Day. He said candidates like Christine O’Donnell, Sharron Angle and Rand Paul, who are “hijacking the Republican Party,” have contributed to an increase in voter enthusiasm among Democrats.
