Sayonara The Color Purple

A mere four years after the 2004 election, in which the continental United States divided itself fairly evenly between the “red” heartland and the “blue” coasts, the Obama juggernaut swept into traditionally “red” states — Indiana, Virginia, Colorado and North Carolina. According to Politico, however, the paint seems poised to spill red in vast quantities, especially in precincts that belonged to Republicans until the day before yesterday.

“Of the 69 Democratic-controlled House seats rated as tossups or favoring Republicans by The Cook Political Report, 40 are in the South or Midwest.” More: “Even if Democrats are able to prevent a total wipeout, it’s likely that this year’s elections will mark a return to the familiar political universe that characterized the decade before 2006, when the GOP controlled swaths of politically conservative and moderate parts of the country.”
