Yesterday, I posted a release by the Wesleyan Media Project showing what non-hack observers already suspected, but couldn’t factually confirm: that Democrats have been the more personally negative party this election cycle.
Today, the Project has released a data set with a more surprising, but no less important piece of information: that the icky, foreign-influenced, shady right-wing group known as the United States Chamber of Commerce actually spent $1.2 million in favor of Democratic candidates in various races throughout the country. Full release here, with money quote below:
Table 6 shows the top independent groups that are spending on political advertising in support of or opposition to a candidate. Republican-leaning groups dominate the top of the list, which is headed by the Republican Governor’s Association. This group is followed closely by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has spent an estimated $15.7 million since September 1 in support of Republican candidates and an estimated $1.2 million in support of Democratic candidates.
I’m sure we all expect an apology from Barack Obama, Ted Strickland and every other politician who has capitalized on biting the hand that’s feeding them.
