The Veterans of Foreign Wars-Political Action Committee endorsed Sen. Barbara Boxer yesterday at the opening of a veterans center at Pasadena City College. Also attending was Hawaiian Democratic senator Daniel Inouye, a military veteran who praised Boxer for helping make Manzanar, the California camp where Japanese-Americans were interned during World War II, a historic site and for her efforts to help create a San Diego combat care facility, according to the Los Angeles Times.
But the VFW (a separate organization from the VFW-PAC) has questioned the recent endorsements by the PAC. “The national line officers of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) are at odds with the VFW Political Action Committee (PAC), calling the methodology process used by the PAC “seriously flawed at best this year and in immediate need of extensive review,” in the wake of the recent congressional endorsements made by the committee,” said the group in a statement.
Several veterans spoke out against the endorsement, including Sen. John McCain. His statement:
Carly Fiorina has been outspoken in her support of our men and women in uniform, and I know she will be a vocal advocate for our troops as a member of the U.S. Senate. As both a veteran and as a senator, I have seen Barbara Boxer put politics ahead of our men and women who have served in uniform.
Barbara Boxer knows she’s in a tough re-election race, and it’s clear she’ll say anything and use anyone to save her own job — and that includes papering over her record of voting against funding for mental health services, prosthetics, body armor and communications equipment for our soldiers and of disrespecting such military officials like Brigadier General Michael Walsh and General David Petraeus.
In contrast, Carly will work tirelessly for our veterans. I know the person I want fighting with me in Washington on these critical issues is Carly Fiorina, and that’s why she has my strongest support.
