Daniel Webster’s Final Appeal: ‘You Could Pray’

Daniel Webster, locked in a tight race with 8th-district incumbent Alan Grayson, made his final pre-election stump speech Monday evening in Ocala to approximately 100 supporters.

Speaking from the back of an F-150 pickup truck, Webster urged participation in the electoral process and suggested a little faith could go a long way.

“Between now and tomorrow, I need you to go to the polls and vote. Between now and tomorrow, I need you to take somebody with you — your neighbor, friend or family. Between now and tomorrow, I need you to wave signs on a street corner,” Webster said. “And you know what? Between now and tomorrow, you could pray.”

The race results will be watched nationally due to Grayson’s iconic status among progressives, many of whom lauded his outspokenness on health care reform. Earlier this year, he took to the House floor and stated that the Republican health care plan is for sick Americans to “die quickly.”

Two independent polls have been conducted of the race, both of which gave Webster a seven-point lead over Grayson, though the incumbent Democrat has disputed the polls’ validity.
