High Turnout in West Virginia

West Virginia is experiencing an unusually higher voter turnout today. From the Wall Street Journal:

From mid-October through Nov. 1, 108,212 votes had been cast, nearly double the 67,000 early votes cast in 2006, according to the Secretary of State’s office. …

Nearly 58,000 registered Democrats voted early, compared with about 38,000 registered Republicans, in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans by roughly two to one.

Mr. Glance [spokesman for the West Virginia Secretary of State] said overall voter turnout in West Virginia, where today’s weather is sunny and cool, could surpass a recent high of nearly 50% of registered voters in 1994, another midterm year when the electorate was energized.
