Major Donors Praise Cino

Jeanne Phillips, former U.S. representative to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Fred Meyer, a major donor to the Republican National Committee, wrote to members today asking them to support Maria Cino for chair. Phillips and Meyer cited their experience with Cino during the 2000 campaign, when Cino ran the RNC’s victory program and Phillips and Meyer served on the Victory committee. “Time and again, Maria delivered on her promises,” they note.

Phillips and Meyer are two of the four founders of the Pioneer program, a fundraising initiative started under President George W. Bush. Clearly, Cino hopes their endorsement will carry greater weight with members. “Maria is a known leader among the majority of the major fundraisers and donors for the RNC over the past decade,” they write. “In our view, many of these donors and finance folks have been on the sidelines for the RNC and Maria is the best candidate to bring them back to the game.” The full letter is below.

Dear Fellow Republican,

We are writing to ask that you give your support and your vote to Maria Cino for Chairman of the Republican National Committee.  Though there are many qualified candidates, all with good intentions, we are urging your support because we have worked directly with Maria Cino and know that she is the one person who can tackle the very difficult job of bringing all Republicans together AND find the support needed from financial contributors across the country to put the RNC back on track.

During the 2000 campaign, we moved to Washington as the Chairman and Deputy Chairman for the Victory Committee. Time and again, Maria delivered on her promises.  She has outstanding political instincts.  She is a superb leader and has a unique ability to bring a wide, diverse group of individuals together to accomplish a common goal and most importantly, she understands how to run a large organization with a multi-million budget.  In addition, Maria is a known leader among the majority of the major fundraisers and donors for the RNC over the past decade.  In our view, many of these donors and finance folks have been on the sidelines for the RNC and Maria is the best candidate to bring them back to the game.

Maria Cino has proven time and again that she’s the best the Republican Party has when it comes to leading people and managing money.  During the 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns and many times since, many Republicans have been struck by Maria’s sound fiscal instincts.  Maria knows that it’s not just about how many dollars are coming in the door, but it’s also about what you’re spending.  The RNC would do very well to have Maria as its next Chairman.

There are many challenges for the RNC.  We were honored to be in residence at the RNC for over a year on behalf of President George W. Bush.  Now, we hope that you will hear our plea to elect Maria Cino as Chairman so that our party can regain strength, focus and financial success in the critical year ahead.  Without proper financial support from our major donors across the US, we cannot begin to have the outcomes we expect in 2012.

No one can lead our team better than Maria.  Please give her your support.

Sincerely,

Hon. Jeanne L. Phillips                                                 Fred Meyer
