Confusion in Cairo

1. Several people twittering on the scene report that pro-Mubarak demonstrators have retreated from Tahrir square. At the same time, live feeds continue to show Molotov cocktails being lobbed.

2. There are disputes over whether the pro-Mubarak protesters are authentic. Some anti-Mubarak demonstrators claim to have found I.D. tags on the pro-Mubarak protesters proving that they were actually plains-clothes police. Ben Wedeman of CNN reports, “Mubarak regime has a long history of using armed “protesters” (read provocateurs) in elections, etc. to intimidate opponents.”
