Gov. Scott Walker said today that it would be “wise” for President Obama to focus on Washington, not Wisconsin.
“We’re focused on balancing our budget,” said Walker in an interview on Fox and Friends. “It would be wise for the president and others in Washington to be focused on balancing their budget, which they’re a long ways from doing.”
Walker also emphasized that he has no wish to degrade public employees.
“I’ve said repeatedly good, decent people work for the government,” he remarked. “But they shouldn’t be excluded from what everybody else in society is going through and in these tough economic times we’ve all got to be in it together.”
Thousands have gathered at the state capitol, and Walker reported that others had gone straight to politicians’ homes.
“We’ve had protesters at number of lawmakers’ homes, not just in their offices,” he said, adding that there had been so many protesters in front of his own house that “that the police actually had to close the street down to keep everybody safe.”
Asked about the signs portraying Walker as Hitler and using crosshair imagery, the governor shrugged it off.
“We’re not going to be intimidated by people with the kind of outrageous rhetoric that’s out there,” he said.
