Mitch Daniels confirmed this morning that he had spoken to George W. Bush about a possible presidential run, but wouldn’t divulge the details of their conversation.
“I know that I owe people an answer,” Daniels said on Fox and Friends about making a decision regarding a presidential run.
Asked if he’d like to run, Daniels chuckled. “Would I like to? No. What sane person would like to?” he said.
Speaking about Haley Barbour’s decision to forgo a presidential run, Daniels denied that Barbour’s choice would make a significant impact on his own decision.
“It would have been fun to have been in it together,” Daniels said. “You all would have had a little more fun, had a few more laughs, if we were both in there, and it would have been very clean and upbeat, which I hope it will be, anyway.”
He also spoke publicly for the first time about Osama bin Laden’s death.
“Both [presidents] had a role,” said Daniels, talking about how Bush had “beefed up” the special forces and intelligence during his presidency.
But Daniels also said that both Bush and Obama “would be very quick to give primary credit to our military and our intelligence people, folks who did the real work.
