Huntsman: GOP is ‘Big Tent Party’

Jon Huntsman defended his decisions, as governor of Utah, to accept stimulus dollars and promote cap-and-trade in an interview with the St. Petersburg Times yesterday.

“Practically every candidate in the race has a similar history if they served as governor,” Huntsman said. “That’s what governors do, they wrestle with the issues, they find solutions and they move the agenda forward. At the appropriate time we’ll talk about all of these issues, while remembering that our party is a big tent party. We lose when we try to become exclusive to one particular set of issues.”

Huntsman also denied that he been planning a campaign while still in China, as RedState blogger Erick Erickson suggested earlier this week.

“There was no gearing up for a campaign, whatsoever,” Huntsman said, adding that he “didn’t even know” some of the staffers now associated with him until after coming back to the U.S.
