New Poll: Romney, Palin Lead

Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin still lead the pack among Republicans with 17 percent and 15 percent support respectively, according to a Gallup poll released today.

Herman Cain makes his poll debut with 8 percent backing. That puts him in fifth place and ahead of Tim Pawlenty (6 percent), Michele Bachmann (5 percent), Jon Huntsman, Rick Santorum and Gary Johnson (all three at 2 percent).

Ron Paul, with 10 percent, comes in third. Newt Gingrich’s 9 percent support puts him in fourth place.

But the field’s wide open: 22 percent of Republicans and right-leaning independents don’t even have a preferred candidate at this point.
