Pawlenty Would Sign Ryan Plan

Tim Pawlenty said today that he would sign Paul Ryan’s budget plan, if it wasn’t an option to sign his own plan, which he intends to roll out in the coming weeks.

“If I can’t have my own plan — as president, I’ll have my own plan – if I can’t have that, and the bill came to my desk and I had to choose between signing or not Congressman Ryan’s plan, of course I would sign it,” Pawlenty told reporters in New Hampshire today.

He said that his plan would have “many similarities” to Ryan’s plan. The two plans will differ on Medicare. Pawlenty also plans to tackle Social Security in his plan, which Ryan’s budget would not impact.

“I applaud Congressman Ryan for his courage and his leadership in putting his plan forward,” Pawlenty said. “At least he has a plan. President Obama doesn’t have a plan. The Democrats don’t have a plan.”
