Newt Gingrich shifts on the Ryan budget further, writing to House Republicans today: “Paul Ryan and the House Republicans are trying to save Medicare in a period of enormous economic and fiscal difficulties.”

Tim Pawlenty hasn’t released his Medicare plan yet, but told reporters today it would allow seniors to choose between staying in the current system or going with the new program. That’s a significant difference from Ryan’s plan, which would shift everyone 55 and younger into the new voucher system.

Freedomworks doesn’t have a favored candidate for 2012, but the organization knows who it despises: Mitt Romney. The Huffington Post’s Jon Ward details how the organization is working to ensure Romney doesn’t nab the GOP nomination.

Meanwhile, Romney, who has been cool to Iowa so far this cycle (he lost, after significant investment in the state, to  Mike Huckabee in 2008), has announced he will visit the state on Friday.
