Newt Gingrich said this morning that the bulk of his senior staff resigned en masse due to “fundamental differences about strategy.”
“My campaign consultants understood 30-second attack ads,” Gingrich said on Fox and Friends. They didn’t understand you could actually write a book with big ideas and actually campaign talking about big ideas.”
Gingrich pointed to his new book, A Nation Like No Other, which focuses on American exceptionalism, as an example of the difference between his mindset and that of his former team.
He also noted that most of the exiting staffers were newcomers.
“The only person that I really regret losing was, in fact, somebody who was with us a long time,” said Gingrich, presumably referring to long-time employee Rick Tyler, who had been serving as his campaign spokesman. “Everybody else was an outside consultant. All of my core team, the people who were with me over ten years, with the exception of one person, all of them are still here.”
