Fifty-four percent of Republicans and 50 percent of Tea Partiers would prefer Sarah Palin not run for president, according to a new CBS poll. Thirty-four percent of Republicans and 38 percent of Tea Partiers would like to see Palin run in 2012.
The poll also showed that Palin has the highest unfavorable rating (36 percent) from Republicans and is the best-known (25 percent don’t know or have no opinion about Palin). Newt Gingrich is in second place for both those categories, with 34 percent of GOP voters viewing him unfavorably and 41 percent having no opinion.
However, Palin is in first place among GOP voters in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. In that poll, Palin was backed by 22 percent of Republicans. Mitt Romney won second place, with 20 percent of voters, and Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich tied for third at 7 percent.
A Fox News poll released yesterday found Mitt Romney in first place (23 percent) among GOP primary voters. Rudy Giuliani (13 percent) was second, Palin (12 percent) third, and Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich tied for fourth (7 percent).
