Tim Pawlenty thinks Republicans should continue to use the debt ceiling vote as a way to gain leverage.
“If we don’t get people in Washington D.C. to take this seriously and actually make the tough decisions — they always say ‘Oh, we’re going to make the tough decisions. We’ll do it. We’ll do it’, and then they never do,” he said on CNBC, reports GOP12.
“The only way you’re going to get people to do something tough is to put their backs up against the wall,” Pawlenty added.
Romney addressed the matter yesterday, saying, according to ABC News, that “the answer for the country is for the president to agree to cut federal spending and cap federal spending and put into place a balanced budget amendment.”
“It is within the president’s power to say to the leadership in the house and the senate that ‘I’ll cut spending I’ll cap the amount of spending and I’ll pursue a balanced budget amendment and if the president were to do that this whole debt limit problem goes away,” Romney said.
