Rick Perry’s August 6 prayer day has been plagued by controversy. (Just last week a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit related to Perry’s involvement.) Today the Associated Press reports that only 8,000 people have RSVP-ed to the event, which is being held at Houston’s 71,500-seat Reliant Stadium. Considering how heavily Perry has been involved in the event — the website features a video of him urging people to attend — the optics of a nearly empty stadium will not play well for him.
