If House Democrats want to improve their numbers in Congress, then Nancy Pelosi should step aside, say two Democratic congressmen.

Representatives Michael Capuano and Stephen Lynch, both of Massachusetts, appeared on WGBH’s Greater Boston on Tuesday to express their displeasure with the direction of the caucus under Pelosi.

“I have said from day one that when you do something, no matter how good I may think it is, if it’s not working, you should change what you’re doing,” said Capuano. “Right now, we continue to do the same thing. We have lost more seats since then.”

While he said it would be “incredibly stupid” to blame just one person for all of House Democrats’ woes, he did not seem to hold back from calling for a change in leadership.

“I think we need leadership that understands that if something that you’re doing is not working, change what you’re doing,” Capuano continued, before the host followed up by directly asking if the minority leader should be replaced. “That, or she should change — one way or the other.”

Lynch chimed in by predicting that the future for House Democrats does not bode well if Pelosi remains as leader. “Nancy Pelosi will not lead us back into the majority,” he said.

“So the answer is yes [she should step down]?” the host asked.

“Right,” he said.
