Professor Calls for ‘Men Control’ to Stop Gun Violence

"Masculinity" kills.

An associate professor of women’s studies at the University of Maryland posted a series of tweets calling for “men control” and saying that “if someone bombed Rush Limbaugh’s office” it would be wrong for people to express solidarity with him on social media.

“#YesAllWomen We need to add men control to our call for gun control. It’s men with guns who kill people. Overwhelmingly. Recast masculinity!” Ashwini Tambe stated in one of the tweets, as reported by the blog SoCawlege.

Of course, we already have a form of “men control” — these things called laws — that prohibits anyone of any gender from murdering another person. Tambe, however, seems to believe that since more men commit murder than women do, all men need to be controlled — regardless of the fact that very few of them actually murder people. It’s also not clear exactly what she’s proposing here. What would she suggest we do in order to “control” the way people view masculinity? Hypnotize them?

#related#But the crazy tweets don’t stop there. For example:

“I’d be uneasy if someone bombed Rush Limbaugh’s office and suddenly everyone declared ‘IAmRushLimbaugh’ #JeSuisCharlie #JeNeSuisPasCharlie.”

See, I always figured that the thing that would make people “uneasy” about any bombing would be that actual bombing — and not the fact that some people might express solidarity with the victim on social media — but apparently I was wrong.
