Trans Powerlifter: I’m ‘Still Deciding’ Whether to Compete as a Man or a Woman

The powerlifter formerly known as "Matt Kroczaleski" now goes by "Janae Marie."

The world-record powerlifter formerly known as Matt “Kroc” Kroczaleski, who recently came out as transgender and requested to be called “Janae Marie,” has announced that she’s “still deciding” whether to compete as a man or a woman going forward.

In an interview on TMZ Hollywood Sports this week, Marie said that she is “currently living life in both genders at the moment.”

“I haven’t made any physical changes yet . . . as far as competing as a transgender woman, I’m really unsure about that,” she said.

“I’m hesitant because I’m afraid it would do more harm than good. I’m afraid it’s a no-win situation because if I win people will say it’s not fair, it’s cheating and I’m afraid that it would stir up a lot of people protesting against transgender athletes and I would never want to do anything to harm the transgender community,” she added.

Marie also told TMZ that she did not plan to come out so soon but that she was “outed on Monday through a YouTube video,” and so Caitlyn Jenner “didn’t really have an effect” on the decision.
