It turns out that the so-called racist comments that Vester Lee Flanagan claimed to have murdered Alison Parker over were just everyday phrases such as saying she was “swinging by” someplace or going out into “the field” to cover a story.
While on the run from the police after murdering 24-year-old Parker and her 27-year-old cameraman, Adam Ward, on live television Wednesday, Flanagan had tweeted that “Alison made racist comments” in an attempt to explain his actions.
“They hired her after that??” he tweeted.
But the absolute ridiculousness of Flanagan’s accusations came to light this week after the New York Post reviewed a report detailing the internal complaint he had filed against Parker while she was an intern at WDBJ TV in Roanoke in 2012.
“One was something about ‘swinging’ by some place; the other was out in the ‘field,’ ” said the January 21 report by assistant news director Greg Baldwin, according to the Post.
#related#Trevor Fair, a 33-year-old cameraman at the station, told the Post that Flanagan also claimed an employee bringing watermelon into the office was not a nice gesture but actually a racially motivated act that was specifically intended to hurt him.
Fair also told the Post that Flanagan had said that 7-Eleven was racist for selling watermelon-flavored Slurpees.
Flanagan was fired from WDBJ in February 2013.
